History
The Bridgeport Public Library first opened its
doors in 1905 by members of the Bridgeport Women's Club, donating the
library's very first books. Over the next 64 years, the Bridgeport
Women's Club struggled to keep the library open; having to relocate
several times. In 1969, the Bridgeport Public Library opened its
doors in its present location.
Friends of the Bridgeport City Library
is a group very much like the Bridgeport Women's
Club of years ago - both support the library.
